Whatt's for dinner?

Hello Peeps,

The Mother and The Boss are on holiday with friends for a week. I hope they are having a lovely time. Unfortunately while they are gone Miss H is cooking dinner.

Hmmm... I wonder what is for dinner tonight?

Uh, Miss H, why do the baked beans have eyes?

Maybe I will have spaghetti and meatballs instead...

Argh! I am being attacked by a meatball.

HELP! HELP! HELP!

I am going to have to make my own dinners from now on.

Gummy pizza. Delicious.

Saturday Show: Kindred Spirits

Hello Peeps,

Today's Saturday Show is not made by either The Mother or Miss H, but by the wonderful Aunty M. It was given to The Mother as a gift and she absolutely lurves it.

Miss H couldn't resist adding the lovely wall hanging to the Show.

 Aren't those heart flowers coolio?

Ops, come back. Pesky wind.

I love chain stitch. It looks so beautiful.

50th Birthday Quilt.

Hello Peeps,

Last Saturday I showed you the Mother's scrappy Hobo Quilt. Miss H also made a Hobo Quilt (but she couldn't stand all the scraps - Miss H is one of those people who likes the all the colours to match). So instead of using scraps she used all bright solids. She decided to make it for the Boss' 50th Birthday.

Here is the Boss' quilt. He absolutely loves it. Whenever we have a family movie the Boss always wraps his quilt around him.

I thought I better get Miss H to photograph it with chocolate and coke because those are the Boss' two favourite things. (And this time Miss H did NOT sample the props!)

Miss H added the yellow strips at the top and bottom because the Boss is tall and she didn't want his feet to get cold.

This is my one of my favourite symbols on this quilt. I think it looks a bit like a tree with arms. It means "Man with a gun." The symbols helped warn the hobos if there was danger, or which direction to take, where they could get free food, what they had to do to earn food, and information about the trains, etc.

Miss H used polar fleece for the backing so that the quilt was very warm.

As soon as Miss H saw this fabric she knew that it would make the perfect border.

A Squirrel, a Snail and some Owls

Hello Peeps,

The Mother and Miss H have been busy making coolio woodland creatures.

Look what the Mother made. Isn't it sooo coolio?

It is a needle keep. She used the pattern from Wild Olive - you can find it here!

While I was looking for the perfect place for Miss H to take a picture I found this awesome snail. Look at the face that Miss H drew on it (Grandma asked her to). Heehee.

Miss H found these three hoops at a second-hand shop. She plans to cover them with fabric and put stitcheries in them to hang on her wall.

These two cutie owls will go in the big hoop.

This coolio owlie will go in one of the two small hoops. Miss H still has to stitch one more for the last hoop.

But wait, what is that in the right corner?

Oh look, another owl. He can't be put into the third hoop because Miss H already has another owl stitchery planned for that hoop. What is to be done with him?

Gone to the Dog!

Hello Peeps,

This quilt was a disaster. For starters the patterns for each block were terrible and very unclear. The Mother and Miss H also decided to use scraps from all sorts of different kinds of fabrics - which presented its own problems. A few blocks in Miss H gave up on making her one out of scraps and instead made it out of all solids (that is next Show's quilt). The Mother perserved and finished her quilt (though she did make it a lot smaller).

Each square has a different meaning. They were drawn by the hobos during the Great Depression as a way of passing informationon to each other.

Doesn't it look really cool?

My favourite block is this cute birdie.

Here is a close up of some other coolio blocks.

The Mother backed it with an old blanket.

It is now used for the Enemy to sit on in the car (usually on Miss H's lap).

Are we going for a ride now?

The road goes ever on...

Hello Peeps,

Last Friday Miss H, The Mother, Aunty S (who Miss H went to visit in India and is back for good now), and Me went for a road trip to Matamata.

The road trip started with hot chocolate, of course.

We paused along the way to stretch our legs and let the Enemy run around.

We had morning tea at the old Waharoa Butter Factory, which now has a very nice cafe in part of it.

The Mother got Citrus Slice, Aunty Susan got Louise Cake, and Miss H got Chocolate Cherry Slice. I was allowed to try them and they all tasted delicious. My favourite was the chocolate one.

But poor Aunty Susan and the Mother nearly died with how much tea was in their small teapot. It was jam packed with tea leaves.

Can you see me? I am sitting outside the Information Centre at Matamata. It looks just like a Hobbit house.

Hanging out with my mate Smeagol.

They had coolio pictures carved into the door frames, and several round doors. It was soooo awesome!

Doesn't it look lovely with the plants growing up the side of this window?

After visiting Aunty S's sister we went to Hobbiton (the one where the movies were shot) and had lunch. We didn't go see the actual movie set because we had to be home in time for dinner like true hobbitses.

Saturday Show: Coffee, Chocolate, and Strawberries

Hello Peeps,

Our spring has run away and winter has come back. :( So we are all dreaming of warmer weather. And today's quilt reminds us of the fun times we have had when the sun was shining.

Let me introduce:

Coffee, Chocolate, and Strawberries.

Miss H sneaked some melting moments from Grandma's for the photo shoot (of course she didn't return them...)

Halfway through making this quilt the Mother almost threw it in the bin. She didn't like the background, but now that it is finished she loves it again.

Aren't those stars just soooo coolio?

Pop by on Monday to see Miss H, The Mother, Aunty S, and my Roadtrip

A Beanie for a Sheep!

Hello Peeps,

As you know Miss H and the Mother have been learning to crochet and have each made a beanie. I thought that Miss H should make me a beanie too, and she has (thanks to some support from another human - it is always important for a sheep to have a human back you up).

I now have my very own sheep sized cat beanie.

Here is a side view. Isn't it sooo coolio?

The poor cat beanie only has one eye but that makes him even cuter.

Aren't I looking pretty flash?

I was told "Cats rule and dogs drool", so I thought I better check the truth of that...

Bow your head before me.
Heehee. It works.
